Agreeing to these terms
These terms cover the Handwrite app for iPhone and iPad, this website and the web reader, and Handwrite voice plans (together, “Handwrite”). By using Handwrite you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
The app is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA). These terms add to that agreement; where they conflict, the standard EULA applies to the app.
Your account
You need a Handwrite account to use the app, cloud voices and the web reader. Give accurate details, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You’re responsible for what happens under your account. You must be 13 or older to create one, or have a parent’s or guardian’s permission.
Voice plans and auto-renewing subscriptions
Every account includes 2,000 characters of cloud voices a month at no cost. For more, you can buy a monthly plan in the iOS app:
- 20,000 characters a month: $1.99 a month
- 45,000 characters a month: $3.99 a month
- 100,000 characters a month: $9.99 a month
- 1,000,000 characters a month: $99.99 a month
Prices are in US dollars; the App Store shows the price in your currency before you buy.
- Plans are bought through the App Store, and payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm.
- A plan renews automatically every month at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel a plan in iOS Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your plan keeps working until the end of the period you paid for.
- Switching to a bigger plan starts it right away.
- Each month’s characters are for that month. Unused characters don’t carry over, and your allowance resets when the plan renews.
- Plans are tied to your Handwrite account, so they work on any device or browser where you sign in. Plans can’t be bought on this website.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. You can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Acceptable use
Use Handwrite only with content you own or have permission to use. Please don’t:
- break the law or infringe anyone’s rights, including copyright and privacy;
- use cloud voices to impersonate a real person or to make misleading or harmful audio;
- resell, share or automate access to your account or the voice service, or get around its limits;
- probe, overload, reverse engineer or interfere with Handwrite’s servers, except as the law allows;
- use Handwrite to harass, threaten or harm others.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
Your content
You keep ownership of your documents and the text you write or scan. When you play text with a cloud voice, you let us and Speechify process it only to make the audio for you. Our Privacy Policy explains how data is handled.
Accuracy and availability
Recognition, translation, spelling and grammar suggestions and read-aloud can make mistakes, and some features aren’t available for every language or device. Check recognized text and translations against the original before you rely on them, and keep your own copy of important originals.
Handwrite is a reading aid, not a medical, legal or professional service. Cloud voices and the web reader need a connection and may sometimes be unavailable. Optional Apple, Google and iCloud features are subject to those providers’ terms.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Handwrite is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we don’t promise that Handwrite will be error-free or uninterrupted.
To the extent the law allows, Handwrite is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Handwrite in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you; nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law.
Ending your use
You can stop using Handwrite and delete your account at any time. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel your plan first. We may suspend or end access if you break these terms or if we stop offering a feature; if we stop offering paid plans, we’ll tell you in advance.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Handwrite changes. We’ll update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use Handwrite after a change means you accept the new terms.
